Is Bobby Dalbec's Improved Plate Discipline Sustainable?

A few weeks ago, Zach Buchanan of The Cincinnati Enquirer wrote a column titled, "Can Michael Lorenzen be a two-way player?" It's an interesting question, and one that has been asked about Dalbec as well.

Dalbec has always been a good hitter, but he's struggled with plate discipline in the past. In 2019, he struck out 33.3% of the time, which was one of the highest rates in the Major Leagues. However, in 2020, he struck out just 25.2% of the time, which was a significant improvement.

So, what's changed for Dalbec? One possibility is that he's simply gotten more experience. He's now entering his third season in the Major Leagues, and he's starting to figure out what pitches he can hit and which ones he should let go. Another possibility is that he's worked with a hitting coach to improve his approach at the plate.

Whatever the reason, Dalbec's improved plate discipline is a good sign for the Red Sox. If he can continue to hit for power while striking out less, he could be one of the most dangerous hitters in the league.
